my dog keeps running away.......

Question
QUESTION: hi! i have 2 dogs. Dakota is a 4 1/2 yr old husky/lab mix, and Reggie is a 4 month old chocolate lab. My problem is that Dakota runs away almost the minute she is loose. She can be gone for 5 minutes or up to 5-6 hours! I have a very large pen in the backyard where the dogs stay, and they come out on a daily basis at least once. We have tried walking her around the edges of the yard on the leash and showing her where she can go, and praising her when she stays in the yard, but it doesn't seem to be working. I just recently bought the dog training collar, which comes with a remote and you can warn or zap the dog. This however doesn't seem to work as her fur is very thick. They stay outside all day long, in the winter she comes inside when it's really cold. If you have any suggestions that i can try, they would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Amanda

ANSWER: How predictably cruel of you...  :-#

QUESTION: What i don't understand is why you decided to comment on my question as appose to answering it. For one, my dogs cannot come in the house because both my sons are allergic to them, but i refuse to give them up, and i'll have you know that my oldest dog doesn't like to be in the house, she loves it outside. You have no idea what there pen is like, so how can you judge me leaving them outside? I'll have you know that they have a pool, plus about 5-7 trees in their pen, it is almost 1/4of an acre in size. As for the collar, would you make the same comment in regards to how farmers treat their cats and cows? This collar is not a cruel thing to do, unless you are using it inproperly, which i'm not. I don't take joy out of zapping or hurting my dog in any means, and for you to imply that of me is just plain wrong and ignorent!
ANSWER: Well you answered your own question.  If your dogs have SO much space then why try and boundry train them?  Why is it she runs away if she loves all her space SO much?  Dogs with a pool?  Very interesting.  We aren't talking cats and cows,  and I have never seen a shock collar on a cat or a cow sadly. The fact is shock collars are wrong.  There are so many ways that aren't harming the dogs you could use,  but like so many lazy, thick owners you want the easy way.  Would you put one on your child?  If they are used properly of course.  There is no excuse for forcing an animal to do what you want by shocking it,  no matter how small the shock or how "right" you use it.

Sorry.

QUESTION: the fact that you would call me lazy is quite unprofessional. I let them out often because they love to run and play with the kids. I do not believe that they should be locked up all day long, and i quite enjoy playing with them. have you ever been to a farm? do you know that above the head of a cow is a bar that shocks them every time they back up too far?? Ofcourse people like you would be too self involve to realize this. I find your "tatics" of trying to help people are very pathetic, and don't believe you know the first thing about dogs or people. You can rest assured that i will never write and ask a simple question to this website again as i'm afraid all i'll get is a bunch of crap answers from people who don't know anything!!!

Answer
Cool with me.  Play with your kids who are allergic to them?  Great! Child cruelty too!! I have both been to, and worked on farms. I'm so self involved I choose to help people .  Yip OK. I have answered many serious questions and been successful,  so your comment about knowing nothing of dogs is null and void. After breeding, and training for over 11 years I know more than you ever will about the workings of dogs.

Last thing.  Such a simple qustion you couldn't work it out alone?
