transferring from CKC to AKC

Question
QUESTION: Is it possible to transfer from CKC to AKC?  If so how do you go about that?  What is the difference between AKC & CKC?  Why would one be recognized & one not?

ANSWER: Are you referring to the Canadian Kennel Club or the Continental Kennel Club? Only dogs registered through recognized registries can acquire AKC registration.

Canadian Kennel Club dogs can easily be registered with the American Kennel Club. One just needs a couple photos of the dog, a copy of the dog's pedigree, and CKC registration papers.

If you are referring to the Continental Kennel Club, that is not a recognized registry as it is one of those that was started by irate puppymillers who pulled their dogs out of AKC when they were required to DNA-test their frequently-used stud dogs. They register mixed-breed dogs, as opposed to the American Kennel Club (and the Canadian Kennel Club) which only maintain purebred dog registries.

QUESTION: I was referring about the Continental Kennel Club, as we are not either a fan of them and we do have another dog register with the AKC. So my question is how can we register our CKC dog with you? I heard about the DNA test, if we get it done, can we register our dogs afterward with you? If yes, where can we get it done? and Do you know how much it cost approximately? Thank you so much for your assistance.

Answer
Sorry, but I have nothing to do with AKC registrations; I am just a dog owner/exhibitor/groomer who volunteers to answer questions here with AllExperts.com.

No, your CKC-registered dog can NOT be registered with AKC unless both of its parents were registered with AKC. http://www.akc.org/press_center/akc_syndicate/ask_AKC/0407.cfm

If you wanted an AKC-registered dog, you should have purchased an AKC-registered dog. If the breeder told you otherwise, he/she was wrong.
