Question
QUESTION: Hi Melissa
My puppy was fine this morning, but when I come from work I saw she was restless and it seems she has colic. She drinks a lot of water and is not dehydrated and I even give her some rice to eat and 3ml of vitamins.  She is 9 weeks old. It seems she has difficulty to defaecate and there is only drops of blood coming out. The next thing I notice is that about 10cm of her rectum is hanging out. I pushed it back very gently.  The blood is still seeping from her rectum.  Is she constipated from a foreign object in her intestine?  She really does not look ill, just weak from the loss of blood. How do I stop the bleeding?

ANSWER: Hello Charmaine;
She probably has bad "Parasites" and she is in desperate need of attention!

Do take her to the Vet as soon as possible!
Let me know how it goes,
Melissa

QUESTION: I did take my puppy to the vet and he told me she had the catflu virus. This sound absurd cause none of my other young dogs has this virus. He said he had to put her down, even if he operates to shorten her intestine the problem will occur again.  I read your answer because I did deworm her two days prior to her problem and it seem more logic that the worms form a obstruction. Sadly your answer came a few hours to late.  I ask the vet if it could be a obstruction, but he was adament it was the catflue virus... I now have a different situation on hands. One of my other dogs had pups and they are all fine. I dewormed and get rid of their fleas and one pup 3 months old started to having this "epilypsy" fits all of a sudden, especially when she get excited. Her whole body start to quiver and her heartbeat go through the roof and she cannot walk and crawl and when I picked her up she relax and the spell is over.  She tires easily and get a fit again. She walk but her back is hunched as if she has pain in her abdomen. I deworm her for roundworms (I picked that up in her feaces) but it is two weeks later and still worms and fits. I dewormed again, but still the problem go on. What is bothering me is that one of the other pups also 3 moths old is so healthy and she started to get the same fits 2 days ago.  The expiry date on the dewormer is still good (09/2010)It is a liquid dewormer. The first pup that the vet put down, I gave dewormer in tablet-form, and I decide to buy the syrup this time. I know epilepsy is common in dogs under 3 years old but this is absurd, as is seems to me every time I deworm my puppies get serious side-effects. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for the help

Answer
Hello Charmaine;
Genetics are part of this equation, it just may be a coincidence that the symptoms come out when they are wormed..or it triggers their immune system at that time.
So, this is a sign to change the lines you are breeding!
Best wishes,
Melissa
