QuestionHi Becky, I have an 8 yr old male lab who has had severe problems with his anal sac throughout the years...but never incontinence! After numerous abscesses treated with surgery, antibiotics, etc. on the left side; a small tumor had grown on the right side. My vet s advice (and second opinion) was to remove both anal glands and the tumor. That happened nearly 3 weeks ago and he is still having trouble holding his feces. He is now wearing a diaper, which hardly helps. Most recently the vet gave me another medication to help repair nerve damage, but I am afraid to give it to him. I have had such terrible experiences with various veterinarians, I have lost faith in their methods. Please, I need help controlling this! I have another 5 yr old female and we miss our Bodi the way he used to be! Looking forward to ANY insight, Lora Brockert
AnswerHi Lora,
I'm sorry, but I really do not know what to tell you. It sounds like either the tumor , or the removal of the tumor damaged the sphyncter muscle and has left your Lab with a terrible problem of incontinence. I honestly do not know if there is a solution. If I were you , I would go online to some of the veterinary colleges and see if there is someone you can contact for information , that is an expert on this particular ailment. I really wish I could help you, I am so sorry.
God Bless,
Becky
