Question
Hello! I'm really worried about my Bichon Frise. I took him to a new groomer this morning, one that is closer to our home. I let her know before I handed him over to her that he was abused and is very cage shy and that if she was going to leave him in the cage that he gets very distressed. That was at 10 am. She assured me everything would be fine. at 1:50 pm. I finally received a phone call from a different women not the one that I dropped him off with that after 4 hours of him being there they were unable to groom him because he kept biting her! I told her I would be there right away. I called our regular groomer who is out of town and asked if he had ever snapped or bitten at her and she reassured me absolutely not! When i got there Buddy was very distressed wimpering, and wouldnt give me kisses or anything for almost 30 minutes after. As soon as I got home my sister helped me wash Buddy and brush him out, and I noticed a small dark spot to the left above his anus. Within 2 hours the spot had   become more of a "U" around the entire top of his anus. I thought maybe it was just darker skin I had ever noticed, but after I touched it I realized it was very uncomfortable for Buddy and even the slightest touch he jumps and whimpers!!! The women didnt tell me that she gave him anal cleaning.....and even if she did he has had cleanings before  and never been this uncomfortable! Please Help! Should I make a vet appt??? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hello Frani, Wow what a bad experience for him.  It could be either clipper irritation, from using a blade to close or actually nicking his rear. This could be treated with Vaseline, or anything that would sooth the irritation. If you think it might be something else, like something to do with the anal gland, then take him to the vet, they might be impacted.  Although if he was not bathed it should not be the anal glands. Groomers usually express them in the tub.  Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
