Great Pyrenees

Question

Shirley   We adopted Great Pyrenees females as puppies from deplorable conditions one year and four months ago. We absolutely adore these big girls. They live in just over an acre fenced around our home. They guard the property , cats, our other dogs and the chickens. Sometimes they get into fights with each other over the guarding thing otherwise they play together. One does not seem too happy I think she needs a job. A friend wants to adopt her to guard his show goats since his donkey recently killed some of them. Question, do you think she would be happier doing that, it breaks my heart to think about not having her or to think she and her sister would be lonely or afraid without each other but I want the best for them. Sorry this was so long. I am really torn up about this. Please help me with some unbiased advice and thank you.

The best way to find out is to let the friend take her for quite a few weekends and let her "try out" the new place.  Let the friend spoil her a bit while she is there, spending time with her and the goats.  See how she seems.  That way she is making the decision.  Also, the fights may get worse as they get older, sometimes two females don't get along as they get older.  The friend will have to make a big effort to gain her affection and respect in the beginning because it may be hard to separate from you, but in the end she may really like it there; she won't have to share with her sibling.
