What kind of dog should we get?

HI  Nancy,
 We are thinking of getting a dog but I do not know what breed to get.  We are a family of 4, including a 2 year old and an almost 4 year old.  We would like a very sweet dog that trains easily.  S/he needs to be great with kids.  We have a fenced in yard and live in CT.  At this point, we are home allot.  We also have a cat. I would prefer a low shedding breed.  We would consider getting an adult who is already housebroken and would also consider waiting until the kids are a bit older. Thank you for your help!

My first choice would be a golden retriever, second would be a boxer, then I would go for a soft coated wheaten,  border terrier, bichon frise, Belgiun Tervuran, Brittany spaniel, Boykin, standard poodle, Boston Terrier, or french bulldog
