Toilet training a dog

Question
I have recently adopted a 4 year old de-sexed male silky terrier.  My problem is how to stop him urinating on the carpet.  I am giving him lots of opportunity to go outside and reward him when I see him urinate.  The layout of my house in such that you must walk through the lounge wherever you are going in the house.  The track from the hallway to the dining room through the lounge is always where he goes.  He does not urinate anywhere else.  He doesn't cock is leg when he goes and its often only a small spot and can happen after he's been outside.  I have previously had two female dogs who died close to each other 3 months ago.  How can I stop this little dog from urinating in the house?  Would appreciate any help.

Answer
Crate training is the fastest way I have found of training a dog what you do is keep them in there all of the time except to feed him and give him water,to take him outside every few hours,to play with him ect and do that for about three weeks and slowly give him more time out of the crate, but if accidents reoccur back in the crate he goes for another ten days

Now the puppy pad/paper method is an old one,but it does work as well. What works best is penning or gating off a small area of the house, and put down the papers/pads and once she learns to go on them(you can encourage him to go on them by placing her on them when she sniffs or circles ect)slowly start moving them towards the door and that will push him to go outside.
