Love Sick Male

Question
Hi, I saw your post from years ago regarding a love sick male and wondered if you might be able to help me. I have a male Lhasa Apso (in tact) who recently was mated with another Lhasa Apso - since then he waits at the door for her when would normally be at my feet, has gone off his food and seems to sulk. I've never come across this before and my family havnt either. I am hoping time will heal his obvious affection for her - it was his first time mating. Wondered if you had any advice or can tell me how it turned out for your love sick male.
Kind regards Kylie

Answer
When my first male got old enough to realize what was happening, he became a problem when my two bitches would come in season. He would cry from a couple rooms away; I don't remember him going off his food, but it takes a lot for *any* of my dogs to do that.

When I put my in-season bitch on chlorophyll tablets, he stopped crying and could sit quietly next to the baby gate that kept the girl(s) in the kitchen. The chlorophyll must be started on Day 1 of the heat cycle to be effective.

I have more dogs now, and someone around here is often in season, and the boys, while interested, are usually quiet and continue to eat, for the most part... desensitized, if you will. Bitches in season are just not a novelty here anymore.
