Our dog is obssessed with my mom!

Question
We adopted our 5-year old jack russell from the shelter about 2 months ago. In the beginning, my mom took care of him most of the time as I was at school and my brother was at work.

Now that it's summer I can spend more time with our dog, but he's simply just too attached to my mom. When she's home, he's a happy, playful dog, but as soon as she leaves he waits for her at the front door till she gets back. Nothing can distract him; toys and treats have no effect. Lately, I've made sure I'm the one who feeds the dog and I play with him most of the time. (he's still quite attached to my mom though)

Any advise on how to get our jack to warm up to the rest of the family would be great :D It's gotten to the point where I'd like to take him for a walk or play with him, but he just sits at the door....waiting.

Answer
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/  For more on being top dog, see http://www.dogbreedinfo.com./topdogrules.htm

Feeding him yourself was a good idea, continue it.  He needs to accept you as a high ranking pack member.
