Puppy Clawing

Question
I came home a few weeks ago to find my 9 month old Pug/Boston Terrier mix had gotten out of the baby gate clawed/bit a huge hole in the arm of my loveseat all the way through to the wood in the hour or so that I was gone.  Luckily I had sofa covers so I put them on the furniture.  Well the other day when I got out of the shower I found that he had clawed through the sofa cover to the same spot and was removing more of the stuffing.  He has countless toys of all kinds to play with and I have scolded him with firm a "no" when he does it.  He never does it when I'm in the room but has done it several times as soon as I step out for just a second.  I have tried the bitter spray on other pieces of furniture and it doesn't seem to work.  Is there anything I  can do?!?!?!

Answer
Ana,
One of the mistakes owners make with their dogs is to give them all their toys at one time.  Just like children, they get bored and don't notice them.  Only give him one or two toys at a time, keeping the others out of sight.
Change his food to Eukanuba puppy food, and/or give him a mineral and vitamin supplement.  Sometimes going after furniture and wood means a mineral deficiency or they lack enough ash in their diet.
Also, I use metal gates with a swing door for my house.  They are a bit expensive but soooo worth it.
Also, try a different brand or two of the bitter stuff.  You say he is still chewing on the chairs, right?  If not it could be working and you don't realize it.
good luck
