Littermate fight

Question
I have two boxer dogs that are littermates; they are now 11 months old, Rusty (male) and Roxy (female). They are spayed and neutered. Have never had a problem with them and I have, as far as I know, set that I am the alpha dog.  Anyway, this morning my male boxer was in the office with me and the female was in the other room sleeping; so, I decided to go ahead and give the male a bone.  This went fine until the female came in at the last minute and challenged him over it, even though I had gone ahead and given her a bone.  I just watched the situation, but then it escalated and it was a downright fight going on.  Of course, my initial reaction was that I jumped up and got out of the way as they were fighting around me, and then I yelled to them to settle.  I finally called my husband to come into the office and he said settle in a loud voice and they stopped, but continued to stare at each other.  This has never happened before and I am so worried about it.  The female is definitely the dominant between the two.  I am so very upset by this, close to tears over the worry; however, right now they are outside running and playing together.  Do you think this will pass and not be a problem.  I will most definitely NEVER give them a treat in the same room again.  I hope you can calm my concerns; however, appreciate your advice.  I love them both so much that I want to do what I can to promote their behavioral health.  They have been through training classes and normally get along great.  Like I said, I am so distraught over this situation.  My husband said they are siblings and will sometimes act as human siblings do and have an argument.  I'm not sure I agree.  Thanks for your input.

Answer
Hi Lisa;
First don't give them bones.
No bones are safe except knuckle bones.
All other bones can be splintered and they can get stuck in the throat or the digestive tract and cause death or at the best, a very serious and expensive surgery.
This includes rawhide bones and chews, and pig's ears.
Veterinarians tell horror stories of the emergency surgeries caused by these, supposedly "safe" treats.
That little girl instigated that, and I would have snatched her up, chewed her butt out good and put her in time-out for a full hour, NOT the half hour I usually do.
I have used time-out for many years, and I have never had a dog yet, that didn't behave themselves to avoid that.
It is just like kids. A lecture is not nearly as bad to endure as a beating, but they would MUCH rather have the beating them the lecture.
You asre pointing out that ( in this case) SHE was wrong and SHE started the fight and was at fault, and that behavior is NOT ALLOWED!!!!!
No toys, just closed up in a small room for awhile, to lie there and cntemplate their crime, that got them jumped on and punished.
I give my dogs treats in the same room all the time, they all four eat out of the same bowls, drink out of the same water disg, get equal treats, and if one or more is not present they will get their share when they come in, unless,,,, they act tacky to one of the others about it, then no treat, a chewing out, and time out.
Have you looked into the obedience classes at Petsmart, Petco and Man's Best Friend?
They have very goiod trainers that guide you through thecourse and teach you how to give the commands and do what gets the dog to pay attention to you.
I would take Roxy, and teach Rusty at home.
Seems to me SHE is the one in need of refining her manners more. LOL
Write if I can help further.
