Question
was wondering why my pit bull (usually after smelling or eating something) will stand still and move his jaw weirdly and it looks as if his brain is bulging threw his shull moving around? this is quit odd and scary looking and is seeming to happen more frquently, is it a medical problem w/ his brain , i have seen the brother do this as well but not way as severe. please help as i recently lost 2 prior dogs to a fire and now fear something may be wrong w/ new pups which are a year old..any help would be appreciated alot thank you

Answer
Hi Tina,

I'm not at all sure that I'm understanding the discription of your dog's problem: "stand still and move his jaw weirdly and it looks as if his brain is bulging threw his shull moving around".

The odd behavior your dog is displaying might be a mild seizure. A mild seizure can look like a momentarily staring into space, or strange eye or head movements.

Seizures can occur as a reaction to medication, allergies, toxins, other diseases, fevers and anything else that disturbs brain function.

You should take your dog to the vet for an examination. Try to take note of how often these episodes last, and how often they occur. Tell your vet.

If it turns out to be a seizure disorder, there are medications that can control it, and your dog can go on to live a normal and happy life. Untreated seizure disorder can be dangerious, and even kill a dog.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,

Patti
