Beagle sleepy when begging for food

Question
I have a Beagle who is about 1yr and 3mo. Sometimes we will give him a scrap from our plates. I've noticed that whenever we eat, he will sit there patiently waiting for us to finish. It never fails that while he waits, his eyes start to close and his head will bob. Of course, this isn't a problem, but I'm just curious as to what makes him do this. I've never noticed it with any other dogs. I'm assuming it has something to do with a hormone or chemical released in his brain at the time. Does anyone there have an answer to this one?
Thanks, Karen

Answer
Your answer sounds as good as any other to me. It sounds like he expects to be fed from the table, so sits there waiting for that treat, but really isn't as food motivated as some other dogs who would be practically jumping up and down and trying to get that food before it goes into your mouth.

By the way, this is a really bad habit to encourage.
