Question
Hi,

I am interested in having a dog someday but my husband feels it's unfair to the dog since we're gone for 10 hours a day. I say a dog on two acres with a loving family is better than a dog in a shelter.

My question is, can a dog be happy being alone that long. Is there a particular breed that is? I want a mutt but can look for one that is dominant in that breed.

Thanks,

Yutonah

Answer
It tends to be an invulvidual thing, rather then a breed thing wheither a dog can be home along all day or not

But try to avoid some of the more active breeds such as huskies, border collies, cattle dogs and jack russel terriers, and hounds can be very vocal as well

Shiz tzus are a great choice if looking for something smaller as they tend to be laid back and need very little exercise, but if your looking for something bigger boxers, labs&german shepherds are good choices as well

But again it depends on the dog itself rather then breed
