New puppy and 3 yr old husky

Question
I have the sweetest most gentle 3 yr old female husky Sapphire. She has been an angel and was very easy to train. A month ago we brought home a 14 week old male husky Tux to add to the family and keep our other husky company. I wanted a male because I had read that they were more apt to spend time with the family as our female is very independent and prefers to sleep at the edge of the room rather than right in the mix with us. Needless to say our little boy is becoming a big boy and looks as though he will out weigh Sapphire by about 10 to 15 pounds. He is bound to be dominant as Sapphire already allows him to put her down even though right now she is bigger. My fear is that he seems to play rather rough and at times I have to give Sapphire a "break" and separate them in different rooms. I'm worried that he may continue this and hurt her when he is bigger. My question is should I be doing more as in stepping in when they play? Should I be shouting at him or should I just continue to separate them when it seems to be getting to rough? Thank you for any advise you can give.

Answer
Do you know where he has been the last 14 weeks?  If he had plenty of other dogs to socialize with, his mother and litter mate would be best, he should have learned males never hurt females.  At 3 years old, she is near the limit dogs enjoy the rough puppy play.  Yes, give her breaks.  Yes, correct him when he fails to accept her enough is enough.

We have to do that.  We have a 13 year old and 4 month old Lab in the house.  Over thanksgiving, the 4 month old was delighted to have a 8 month old visit.  The 13 year old wasn't impressed.

Besides males tending to be more affectionate, a male and female are much less likely to get into status battles, each being the top of their gender.
