Question
about a yr ago one of my dogs was poisoned by I suspect my neighbor.  Any way she brought over a rawhide bone for my other dog today (we are not buddy buddy) and i suspect it reeks of a pesticide smell.  Where can i send this into to be tested?  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori

Answer
Hi Lori,

Though I've never encountered this problem with any of my dogs or neighbors, I think I can suggest a few things.

First, if you haven't already done so, put that rawhide bone in a plastic bag, or wrap it in plastic wrap. If it has been tainted, it shouldn't be in contact with anything in your home, and it should be protected so it can be properly tested.

Have you contacted the police? They might be able to help because if it turns out the bone has been tampered with, you could file charges. In any event, just by calling your local police, they might have information on where you could go to have the bone tested, if they won't do it for you.

Your local poison control center might have information about testing too. You can find poison control in your phonebook.
In your phonebook or in an Internet search, you might find "toxicology services", or possibly a toxicologist or laboratory testing.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,

Patti
