 Please give some housebreaking tips for a 1year old shitzu we are adopting. She is a sweet dog, but doesn't seem to be housebroken.

Hi Chris,
At this age, you are going to have to make a concerted effort for about a month.  Get a crate and see if she will hold it while she is in there,  If she does then when you are not home, or overnight, she goes in the crate where her bed is.  She then is taken out until she goes to the bathroom, frequently (while you are  home) when you come back in (if she went outside) she goes on a leash and attach this to your belt so she is always in your sight.  This way you can correct her if she goes to urinate in the house.  She then goes in the crate if you can't watch her, then goes out again and the whole process is repeated.  
If she does go to the bathroom in the crate overnight, then we have to do another whole process so let me know.
