Question
MY Min Pin is 6 months old and he is doing great with the house breaking down to maybe one accident a week if that. My question is he is going around chewing on walls and rugs, shoes and clothes I have purchase alot of different toys, bones and he chews on those but as soon as I turn my back he is destroying walls. I put him in a pin when we are not at home and at night he sleeps in his crate witch is in our room by our bed and he does well but when we are there and we don't have him in the pin he becomes a terror how do I train him to leave the walls and base boards alone??

Answer
First, make sure you are feeding a quality food. The first ingredient should be a specified meat meal (ie. chicken meal), there should be a minimum of grains, and there should be NO by-products, ethoxyquin, or menadione sodium bisulfate (source of vitamin K). Poor diets can sometimes cause or aggravate some behaviors.

Bitter Apple is a puppy owner's best friend. Spray the surface areas your puppy likes to chew with that, and train yourself to pick up all loose items, such as shoes and clothing. When you are too busy to watch your puppy, he should be confined. Do try to give him more exercise, by walking and throwing things for him to chase. A tired puppy is a good puppy!

Be sure to get him into some obedience-training classes and work with him every single day. Make him work for things he wants. Great dogs are made... not born.
