Pregnant Bichon

hi, our bichon should give birth in May. She and the father live inside our house. They are both a year old. My question is where will she give birth? I want to keep the male dog away from the puppies and for aimee to be comfortable. We have an upstairs where they roam/play, and a furnished basement where they cannot go because there are slippery steps leading down there and they won't try.
Do you think she'd like giving birth under my desk? Is it supposed to be in a box or what? I do have a heating pad. thanks!!

No heating pad is required get a large cardboard box or cut two and tape them together so there is no exposed tape and cut an entrace in the front...no roof is reqired cut a square out in the front a few inches from the floor to pervent puppies rolling out.
