Ginger: still peeing in crate

Question
HI I have a five month old pitbull/german shepard mix. I have had her since 3 months and have had the same problem ever since. When I open the crate in morning to take her out, she pees. When she sleeps on my bed and we both wake up, we go to the door and down the hall, we live in a condo so it takes about 2 minutes to get outside, and she often pees right before getting outside. Anytime I am opening the crate even if she has gone 20 minutes before she will pee from the excitement of me opening the crate. She is a wonderful puppy and would love some advice on this problem. Thank You

Answer
I would crate her as close to the outside door as possible so that you don't have as far to take her out.... and then go very quickly. Here with puppies, I open the crate doors and RUN as fast as I can while calling them before they pee; we live in a split-level, so they have to go down the stairs and then out through the garage. Make a game of it and don't give her time to stop.
