can the big dog hurt the small dog

Question
I have 8 month old boston terrier, friendly and timid, curious and playfull. We go sometimes to the dog park where all dogs are off their leashes.  He seems very excited and always happy to be there. Other dogs (about 5 different breeds) accepted him. But once the smaller dogs play with each other running around, the big dogs suddenly pay attention and start chasing whoever is runnning faster, and it is usually my dog (he is only 16 pounds). What are the chances that  he might be hurt, that he could be taken for the rabbit. I don't know what to expect, I'm kind of scared myself. Should I keep him away from them?
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Olga;
I don't take mine to dog parks.
I have 4, so they play with each other.
When I only had one or two dogs, they played with other dogs in the neighborhood, in our back yard or their's.
some of my neighbors that have only one dog, bring their dog over to play with mine, sometimes.
I would be afraid that people who think their dog can do no wrong, but has not trained their dog, qould also bring their dog there.
I have had a few letters about what to do about people that have dogs in the dog park that are not friendly to other dogs.
However, if these are dogs he plays with all the time, and thee doesn't seem to be too much roughness, then I would let him play with them.
They will NOT mistake him for a rabbit, but sometimes, in chase, they can get over-excited and get carried away.
It bears watching them closely.
Dogs ca have little sqwabbles just like kids can.
You want to be where you can get there in a second ot two to stop anything that gets too rough.
If the larger dogs start chasing and start acting aggressive, then I would be concerned.
