Question
I have a 6 yr. old female mixed breed. When someone comes to the door she usually comes to greet them and barks alot. Lately she hasn't been greeting people and will just hide under a bed or curl up in a blanket. When I pick her up she starts shaking and growling. When I put her down she runs to the door she barks and growls at it, but there is no one there. She has also been very mopey. I have tried taking her for walks and playing with her, but she doesn't seem interested.

Answer
Hi Erin;
Couls she possibly have been alone when someone came to your house and did something to her that would have made her afraid?
This certainly sounds strange to me.
It sounds like a dog who has been tormented or put through some trauma.
Usually you see such a change of behavior when a dog is alone in a fenced yard, and someone comes by repeatedly and torments them.
Her being inside the house, it would be hard for someone to do that.
It doesn't cound like depression, rather like fear.
For her to snart growliong and shaking when yhou pick her up is strange too.
I would get her checked by her Vet to make sure there is not something that causes pain when you pick her up, and talk over the problem with her Vet.
That would be someone who knows the dog, or has maybe seen this type of behavior in other dogs.
In all my years taking care of and raising/training dogs. I have ponly seen this out of dogs where there was someone coming down the alley and bothering the dog when they were alone.
That is why mine have never been allowed out in the yard when I am not at home.
If something is causing pain when she is picked up, and people who come there usually pick her up, that could explain why she hides.
If it isn't that, I can't imagine what it could be.
