I have a 2 year old male mini dacshund, I absolutley adore! I've been reading all these horror stories about their backs and slipped disks. They say not to let them jump on furniture, walk up the stairs, rough house with the 2 black labs. How do you stop them from those activities? My little guy is at the perfect weight and his legs a longer then the average dacshund, so I hope this helps in the future. What can i do to keep his back healthy? I'm so scared of something happening to him.

I am not sure just what you can do.  I have seen steps or ramps for little dogs to get up and down off things.  Getting a young dog to use them might be difficult.  I would find it hard to discourage him from playing with the bigger dogs.  I am amazed how well they do play together.  I mostly see differences of age rather than breed.  We have a friend's 8 week old Golden this week, and she and our 8 months old Lab are having the best time.  Our 13 years old Lab isn't.
