Question
I have a lovable 5 year old Shih tzu.  In the last few months she has starting shaking like she is scared.  At first it was when she knew we were leaving the house, now it can be my cell phone beeping or lightning that sets her off into shaking.  I always love on her and talk to her to get her to calm down.  Sometimes it takes 15-20 minutes to stop.  She is in good health other than having urinary problems that were diagnosed as crystals in her kidneys and the vet has put her on a special diet of Science Diet c/d.  Is there anything I can do to stop this?  Thanks for you time.

Answer
Hi Jenifer;
Dogs and cats can have all the nervous problems and phobias we have,, and they need to be treated, just as mental problems in humans need to be treated.
I tend to think someything about the cell phone has scared her, probably unrealistic, but a fear is a fear.
I have used the Tellington-Touch method of animal massage for years.
Sometimes it takes several massages, and sometimes it takes only one.
My English Setter was so terrified during a thunderstorm when she was just a year old, that she was about to go into shock on me.
It took one 5 minute massage for calming to cure her of that fear for the rest of the 13 years she lived.
Go to this site and read about the massage method, and what can be done with it.
You can order the video there, to learn how to give the massages for different situations.
