I bought a red nose pit october will be 2 years. he was not registered when i bought him, but he is purebred. is there any way possible i could get him registered, or if i was to breed him could i get his puppies registered?

Answer
Hi Heather,

I'm not sure if you can register an adult dog. Were your dogs parents registered? There's a lot of info at the AKC web site about registering dogs you've lost the original registration application, so perhaps you can if you have paperwork showing that the litter your dog was a part of was registered. You should go to the web address listed below, and check out the section for "Lost Paperwork".

You can also contact the AKC Operations Center at 919-233-9767 between 8:30 and 5:00.

Registration itself is neither a guarantee or even an indication of quality. No one examines the parent dogs or the puppies to see if they really qualify for registration. The only time AKC registration is necessary is if your dog is competing in a dog show.

Best of luck,
Patti
