Outside

We have a 4 1/2 month old German Shepherd. We've had him for 2 weeks. He cam from a family that breeds German Shepherds. Him, a brother & sister were left when we got him. They we're in an outside pen along with the mother. The problem we're having is he will not go outside by himself. He will go outside and stand by the door, then start whining and a little bark. Run around the picnic table and right back to the door. I'm starting to get tired of going outside with him until he goes potty. He is starting obedience training on 12/4/06. Maybe that will help?

Man, can I relate to getting tired of going outside and standing until the puppy goes potty! I have a 5 month old that I'm housebreaking right now. Unfortunately, I think we both have to just realize that until the puppy is housebroken, we're going to have to go out with it. That's the only way to praise it when it does potty, and that's very important right now. Once they KNOW to go outside to potty, then it won't be a big deal, but until then.... *sigh*  When you go out with him, have you tried keeping him on a leash until he goes?
