Question
Hi Becky
i was walking with my dog chandler in a park in northwestern minnesota yesterday and he came upon a snapping turtle - it bit him - the dog has a little cut on the button of his nose, tilting towards the upper lip - the dog seems fine but i only found the cut this morning - the dog is a 60-pound chow-shepherd cross - my question is whether i should worry about diseases being transmitted from the turtle - i would appreciate any input you may have
thank you
melinda

Answer
Hi Melinda!

OUCH!  Poor Chandler, I bet that hurt.  I don't think you need to worry about any disease being transmitted from the turtle,  just watch the wound to make sure it doesn't get infected.  Wash it good with peroxide , and watch it for any signs of infection.  If it's just a small cut, it should heal quickly with no problem.  I bet he will be careful around snapping turtles now!

God Bless,
Becky
