Question
i have a rescue springer spaniel who almost 1year old. i did not get her from a rescue centre but i sort of knew the person who rescued her i was told she was kennel club registered but i have not yet received the papers.i don't know the breeder or the names of her parents.  what can i do?
i am not wanting to show her but i might possible want to breed her because she has such a lovely confirmation and is very friendly. i am also training her for agility does she need to be kc registered for this?

Answer
I would not suggest breeding a rescue dog- without knowledge of her pedigree, you would not know if you were inbreeding, breeding improper traits, or breeding a line that has genetic health concerns.

You can not register a dog with AKC without paperwork from the breeder, however, you CAN register her with an ILP number from AKC so that you can show her in agility and any other AKC sport excluding confirmation. You can find out more about ILP registration at www.akc.org. The dog will need to be spayed before she can be registered. You can show in agility without being registered, but if you prefer registration an ILP number is your best bet.
