keeping my dog closer

Question
My 4 year old Labrador/Huntaway cross is generally really well behaved and obedient. The one major problem I have is when I let her off the leash. I'd like her to stay within a 20-30 meter radius but she keeps running off about 200 meters. I can call her back and she'll come back usually straight away but it's a pain to keep calling her. She needs the exercise though so I am reluctant to always have her on the leash when she is otherwise very well behaved. She will heel when off the leash but again she isnt getting as much exercise as when she is running around. Is there any way I can train her to stick around a little closer when we go for walks but still allow her freedom?

Answer
Hi Agnes;
Hve you been through obedience classes with your dog?
Petsmart and Petco have group classes on weekends, and you would learn commands and they would be practiced in class, that would teach her to come instantly when you call, if she is not already doing that.
there are the leashes that expand to 100 fet, and you can retract them. That would give her a little more running room.
Sorry, I don't know metric, so not sure hor far meters are.
I am 72, and even though a lot of the US is using the metric system now, I figure I don't need to learn that.
I need to limit the range of things I take on t learn. Don't have all that much time left, and there are a lot of things I still want to learn more about.
I am learning another foreign language, Spanish now, and I am into seraching my ancestry. That takes up a lot of time, and I answer on 5 or 6 boards in here, have a long email list I communicate with.
I have email friends all over the world that I have become close with, and write almost every day.
I paint, and do needlework and ceramics, porceliane and stoneware, so I am a pretty busy old broad.LOL
I know how you feel if she gets a little too far.
I am an over-protective mommy too.LOL
don't want my babies out of my site, either my 2 legged ones or my 4 legged ones.
We have our grandchildren with us quite a bit, and they chase around with me in my car. We get into all sorts of mischief.LOL
