Question
hi Kristen, this is not a everyday question so if I'm wasting your time please forgive me but I'll give it a try anyway. I know that dogs and cats 'dream' because Iv'e observed and seen them do it. Dreaming is a very interresting subject because it has to do with our subconscious and thus places a bit of mysteriousness to the picture. So if dogs and cats dream then that makes it even more mysterious dont you think? Do all animals dream? I know it's not a general knowledge question but if you dont know do you know somebody that does? Or a link to a site? Thanks, Tony

Answer
Tony, I would imagine that most animals DO dream. All mammals dream, and birds also have periods of REM during sleep. I don't think that animals like reptiles and amphibians, or fish, dream, though. The only reference I can give you as far as studies go, is the one at MIT, which I was unable to find any current information about, but here's a link to the 2001 article: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2001/dreaming.html
