Dog skin bump - maybe parasite?

Hi Becky,

My Dachshund has a small, hard little bump on the fur near her left hip. It's like a tiny white pea half-buried in her skin, and when I scratch at it to try to remove it, she whines and pulls away. I looked at pictures of ticks and I don't think it's that, because it doesn't look distinctively like a bug, but it's way too big to be a nit too. Any suggestions?

Hi Jennifer,
I'm not sure what that could be!  I would make her sit still and try to remove it.  I doubt it's a tick or a parasite.  It may, however, be some type of sore that has crusted over.... but the "white" part is a mystery.  Try to remove it.  If she won't let you, then just watch it and see what develops. I doubt if it's serious.
