Question
I have a 9+ week year old Yorkie Poo puppy.  He's a sweetheart and I love him very much.  I'm scared to leave him home alone.  Not only because he's not completely house broken, but also because he cries/whines a lot when he is left alone?

Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Carene and thank you for your question.

Congrats on the new puppy he must be very cute!

Go out and buy a wire dog kennel you can get plastic ones but I perfer the wire ones its up to you....but I find my smaller dogs never liked being put in a dark kennel. They do sell them at walmart and almost all petstores..if you have a walmart enar you check for a small wire crate there around 24 inches long and 20 22 inches wide...perfect for a small puppy/dog. You will want to place a very small bed or safe blanket in teh Back of the crate and paper in the front...you cna do it the other way around but every dog I've ever owned slept in the back of the crate. Leave a small amount of kibble on the puppies bed... no water thou. A small safe chew such as a puppy kon or puppy Nyla bone is great and its all I trust young puppies with of any breed. Your pupy is nowe ok to be left alone...you can swich on a radio on low on a station that has alot of talking is better nothing like heavy metal he wont appreacte the gester! Be sure the radio isnt too close to his crate it can be in another room just loud enough for him to hear if you want...you do not want him to be able to reach the cord with his paw through the crate and get shocked or worse. You can as another option leave him a a store bought puppy pen, these are made up of several wire sections that can be folded and put away....this has no roof you'll need a 24 inch one i'd say even as an adult he wouldnt be likely to scale a two foot one. Whatever you do don't go right back to his side when you are leaving and he is whinning...he will think' i whine she comes and play with me and cuddles me...I should try this more offen!' Once hes just been let out to potty(its key that you let him potty before crating or penning him) you go out the door and thats it he can whine but you don't tend to him...its very hard espesially with a new pup. On another note what I did alot of the time with my Boston terrier who is jsut now 7 months old was Buy one of those puppy front carrier things that straps onto you like a babies...excpet mine was a pouch so her legs werent hanging out, i brought her to petstores/shopping centers/thrif shops wihtout having to leave her home crying the only problem with this is you don't want to haev teh puppy in too long or you might get peed on and there are stores that completely disregard dogs and will boot you out....its very maddenig or at lest it was to me... we wen to a dollarama one day with "Hannah" when she was just 9 weeks old and almost complelety hidden in her pooch and one of the head workers for the day...a nasty old B*ich lol said dogs arent aloud, she passed by later about 30 seconds alter reminding me.... in a crabby tone... we were in LINE and the checkout for heavens sake the first and second time she said! The second time I said I know and my friend said were just on our way out..... I don't think she could ahve forced us from the store... I would have smacked her lol....but thats jsut me lol. These are wonderful little things thou since you don't want your puppy touching petstore floors/pet shop floors or pavement outside your uyard until he has all his vaccines I used to walk my two older dogs nad bring Hannah along in the pooch for the morning walsk until she ahd her three shots. Also if you work in an office I was once reccomended to me that you could always ask your employer if a small 2 foot crate would be ok to bring yuor puppy with you in behind your desk as long as he is quite and doesnt get let out around the office? After you've left him three or four times he will start understadning he is gonig to need to be alone sometimes and will get used to it all three of my dogs(labrador retreiver 3 years, jack russell terreir 2 years and boston terreir 7 months) can be left in there crate when I'm heading to work with a blanket/toy and food and none of them will make a sound...then again they have each other to sit by and sulk at(for being crtated lol). I hope this helps with your questions if you need Anything else I'd be happy to point you in the right derection. Enjoy your new puppy.
