My 9 month old Westie

Question
Hi Nancy,

I have a 9 month old West Highland Terrior. She is for the most, part potty trained. Sure she has an accident from time to time, but I have her trained to ring a bell at the door when she needs to go out and it's been very successful.

I've noticed for about 8 weeks or so now that she sometimes urinates a small amount when she sees certain people, even people she knows. She is extremely social and friendly. She is never home alone really. She comes to work with me everyday and even there she is never couped up. It's become a problem not only at home, but especially at work if someone comes in to visit that I work with. She always gets extremely excited to see new people, and it doesn't seem atleast that she's nervous around them.

Are there any tactics you've used or are aware of that may help resolve this? Is this perhaps just a phase? I certainly don't wish for it to become a habit forever, so I'd like to work on it now.

Thanks for any help you can offer! I appreciate it!

Answer
Michael,  What is your reaction when she does this.  Do you feel distressed or giving out negative signals.  She is submitting.  A dog will urinate when they submit to another.  Is there a difference in her reactions to men vs women?
