Litter box training a dog

Question
I have a new 10 week old Chihuahua from a pet store I would like to litter box train. I have two 1 1/2 year old Chihuahuas that came to me litter box trained. I have her and the other 2 dogs waste and fresh litter for scent.
Upon rising I place her in the bathroom with the litter box, tap it and say "potty" in box. Good results. I put her food down keeping her in a small area and place her in a large Rubbermaid tub, with a cookie sheet in one end and a towel in the other. I place a baby gate lid over the top and leave her in it. No soiling the towel, but there is litter all over as she barks and tries to get out.
How long should I leave her in the tub?
I saw you pictures of the crates. If I got one, how long so you leave them in there? Do you take them out for periods of time for play, eating and then place them back in?
I appreciate any advise.

Shannon

Answer
A crate is really the best way, what you do is put the puppy in there, but you take them out to be fed and played with,to go for walks ect And every few hours take her out and put her in the litter box-and do this for about three weeks and slowly let her out more,if she makes more accidents back in the crate she goes

she won't be as upset in a crate as she can see out of them
