Itchy ears......

Question
Well, I have two labrador retrievers.  The one with the problem is Hunter, my other dog's puppy.  He is two years old and he has been having problems with his ears.  Hunter has been to his vet many times, who has only given us drops, cleaners, and a special perscription dog food.  I generally clean his ears once a day, but they still itch him.  Inside of his ear is very red, there is alot of brownish black goop, and there is a often pink sores, too.  We have tried everything but have no idea what to do.  Oh, and the vet said that Hunter has food allergies, if that matters.

Answer
well.. labs are very prone to ear problem. and most often they will have this problem for the rest of thier lives.. do they go swiming or in water alot? if they do then that can be a huge problem. put cottonballs in thier ears so the water wont cause infection. but make sure you you remove the cotton balls after that. and he may have a food allergy and i would consut with your dog to see if he need a percribtion food.. like Sience diet duck and potato.. i have see alot of animal on prescription food for allergies. red and inflamed is an indication that they have an ear problem. he could have ear mites... i would stick with cleaning his ears once a day
DO NOT USE Q-TIPS..... THEY WILL BREAK OFF IN THIER EAR AND HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY TO REMOVE THEM..
hopefully i helped
