Question
I was wondering if my maltipoo may be allergic to my cats? Is that
possible? She wheezes a bunch at times, I thought it may be when she gets
excited but, thats not the case when she does it at times.

Thanks.

Answer
While it's possible that your dog is allergic to your cats (talk to your vet) it's unlikely. Sounds to me like, your dog is not really wheezing, what she's doing is called reverse sneezing. It's a real problem with small, or toy breed dogs and is a persistent one, not likely to be outgrown etc. You should have her checked for pharangeal problems and to make sure he throat is functioning properly. If it becomes TOO bad there are medications that she can be given to ease the problem. Meantime, if it appears to be bothering her a great deal, pick her up and rub her throat gently until it passes, or take her outside for some fresh air. To ease your mind, we had a chihuahua who reverse sneezed from the time she was a young pup. She eventually did it when excited, after drinking water too fast, barking too much, running and playing too hard, and sometimes just because! She lived to be 19 years old and at that age we lost her to cancer, the sneezing never hurt her a bit.
