Question
My dog is creeping up on 14 very soon. He has become very picky in what he eats, and also the treats he will eat. He used to love raw hide (about 3 months ago he was eating them), regular dog biscuits and marrow bone treats.  Recently he stopped eating all of the above.  For his treats I've switched him over to chewy treats and Dingo chicken strips (which he loves).  For food, I've been giving him soft food.  I've attempted to mix his soft food with dry food, but he doesn't always eat it.  Is it ok to just feed him soft food at his age?  Does it have the proper nutrients he requires (even though he is this old)?  Anything advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you....Betty

Answer
Hello Betty and thank you for your question, Dogs can get picky at any age, My friends 2 1/2 year old golden ret./lab ret. cross one day decided she hated her dry food and refused to eat all together! he has since tryed four different types of food and finally found one she will eat... very pickaly! she is a treat fantic thou and has a wide rump to prove it lol. Canned food is qualy nutrisuse as dry food provided your feeding a senoir dog food of middle to high quaility you should be ok, I don't reccomend feeing anything too cheap that doesnt even comin senior as just canned food should be kept fair quaility. As long as he gets some sort of harded treats or chews every few days soft diets are ok, if he is however missing teeth or is having diffaculty chewing hard treats stick to soft foods, He might have problems with his teeth alo since he just stopped eating hard foods? maybe you should take a peek inside his mouth or let the vet have a look and see what they say.

I hope this helps if you have any more questions feel free to ask,

Take care and enjoy your dog in his senoir years.
