dog chewing himself

My dog is half schnauzer half sheltie--really looks & acts like a schnauzer.  Even though we bathe him and treat him with advantage every month he is constantly chewing around his anus--seems like the advantage works everywhere else any ideas what this problem is--he is really uncomfortable & I'd like to get him some relief!

This may not be a flea problem, but instead might be an anal gland problem. It could be that they need expressing. Have your vet take a look at them, and if that is it, you might have him show you how to do it so that in the future you can express them yourself if this should happen again.
