Question
First off, thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question.  I have an 11 month old pitbull and I was recently told that if a dog eats tuna all his hair will fall out, can you tell me if this can happen and why?

Answer
Hi Mauricia;
Well, if that weretrue, my dogs would allbe bald.
No, that is not true.
Cats cannot digest the tuna people eat, and it can block something up or something, anyway it can kill them. The tuna for cats have something in it that stabalizes it so a cat can digest it, but dogs can eat tuna with no bad effects, unless they happen to be allergic to it.
Two of my dogs are allergic to all the stuff in the air that I am allergic to.
Actually the tuna packed in oil is good for their hair, unless they are overweight and can't handle the calories.
When a rescue dog I foster is underweight, after it has been seen by our vet, and found to be healthy otherwise, and I am told just beef up the meals, I put a can of tuna packed in oil over their food. They eat it all, and it puts on some fat and shines up their hair. It makes them healthier.
Boy, there are old wives tales about everything, isn't there?LOL
