Aspirin dosage for Arthritis

Question
Hi Dawn,

I have an approximate 9 year old, 85 pound, diabetic German Shepherd mix, named Freddie. He also has arthritis. He is taking Ascriptin for this and does fairly well with it. Lately, his arthritis seems to be bothering him more than usual. I was wondering what the maximum dosage of aspirin he could get in a day would be? He was on Rimadyl in the past, for glaucoma, however within a few days he was throwing up and was quickly taken off of it.

Thanks for the help,
Ricki and Freddie

Answer
Hi Ricki, Because of the fact he was throwing up, I would discuss the amount of aspirin with a vet because aspirin is hard on the stomach so a vet probably wouldn't want you maxing out on it if he is already showing signs of stomach sensitivity to drugs.  I wish I could be of more help, but I think it would just be safer for him if you asked the vet.
