Question
We have an eight month old Shiba Inu.  She came to us with pneumonia, which was treated, and many stomach issues which have not abated.  She will get constipated, or will get stomach cramps, or diahrea.  All bowel movements are preceded or followed by much licking of her bottom.  We never know how she will be from day to day.  She has had all blood work done, xrays, stool samples, and even been to a specialist.  No one can seem to find anything wrong, yet she remains with these problems.  The only diet she can tolerate at all is home cooked chicken and rice.  The vet has put her on Valium to see if that will help - it does to some extent, but how long can she stay on that?  Despite our best efforts we still have the same problems and no answers.  It is hard to watch her in pain.  When not in distress from cramps etc., she is active and happy.  Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Dor

Thank you for the question.  I just have a few questions for you to answer to be able to help you further

What was your dog stools tested for?
What type of specialist did your dog visit & what was your dog tested for?
What are currently feeding your dog on, tinned, dry or both?
How many times a day do you feed your dog?
Do you weigh your dogs food out?
Do you give any supplements?
Do you exercise your dog before or after feeding?
Does your dog have ready supply of stale water?
Has your suggested you diet has an intolerance to cereals?
Has your puppy had its anal glands emptied?
Has the vet checked that your puppies anal glands have developed correctly?

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Kind Regards

Richella
