HOUSE TRAINING NEW 4MO PUPPY

Question
WE JUST PICKED UP A PUPPY TO HELP AN ELDERLY LADY OUT. SHE COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF HER.  THE PUP HAD BEEN KEPT IN A CAGE WITH A WIRE BOTTOM SO SHE IS NOT 'CRATE' TRAINED.  I HAVE STARTED HER OUT WITH THE USUAL CRATE TRAINING METHODS OF A YOUNG PUP. HOWEVER, SHE IS USED TO SOILING THE CAGE. ANY SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS OR JUST KEEP GOING WITH THE USUAL TRAINING? WE WANT TO MAKE THIS EASY ON US AND HER.  HELP!!

Answer
I would recommend the usual house training methods.  Take the pup out first thing in the morning, after every meal and whenever she wakes up from a nap.  Use a crate with a bottom so if she does have an accident in the crate, she'll learn that it no longer goes through the bottom and she has to deal with it until someone lets her out of the crate.  If she's still a pup, she'll catch on quickly and totally forget she was in a crate with a wire bottom.
