dogs off lead

Question
I've just got a dog and I am looking forward to when he can walk on a field without a lead. I am scared as he might runs off and won't come back to me.
How will I know when he is ready?

The answer to this Babs is..you need to train him to be ready. He needs to know obedience ON the leash very welll ..he must not hesitate to listen to your commands..and then you use fishing line to train him off leash. The dog can not see the fishing line so when he gets a correction, he thinks he will always have to listen. this does not work unless the dog is obedient on leash though.good luck
