pooping blood

Question
I have a pit bull and he has been sick for days now. He's been pooping out blood, hasn't been eating and drinks very little. He doesn't even have the strengh to hold himself up. He'll sit for a while then he starts to tip over. He's about 13 months old. This is not like him at all. He is very skinny and will not do anything except lay down. This has been going on for at least 5 days now. Please if you know anything about this let me know.

Answer
Hi Vue,

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but run, don't walk with your dog to your vet immediately..ON AN EMERGENCY BASIS..or you may lose him!  I can't be firm enough when I say this.

Your dog may have Giardia, which if left untreated can cause the death of your dog.  He may have something even worse.  Only your vet can tell, but pooping blood is a very bad sign.  His lack of strength is telling me that he has lost potassium and electrolytes and that he may be hemoraging internally.

For immediate first aid...do not feed him for 24 hrs.  Give him some Pedialyte without delay.  Rush him to a vet today on an emergency basis.

Your dog deserves your immediately attention which may save his life.

This is a serious matter.

Good luck and feel free to bring me up to date on his progress.
