Question
Hi, I have recently adopted a 13month old Doberman. He is a settling in very well but in the past two weeks he has pooped 3 times indoors and last night he urinated in the sitting room. I have scolded him on every occasion and brought his nose down to sniff so he is aware of why I am scolding him. I have also tried giving him a sharp slap on the nose but it does not seem to be effective. IS there anything else I could try ?

Answer
Use a crate and keep him in there all the time except to take him out and for feeding-and do this for about three weeks, then slowly let him out a little bit more

Crates are the best way of house training and that is what the SPCA I volunteer at recommends for everyone that adopts from us-'rubbing his nose in it' is archaic and is no longer used by most trainers(I'm a trainer myself)what is used today are crates and they work in %99 of the time
