Question
I have a red healer and he is three years old. He eats normal dog food and he is not neutered and he is an outside dog. Well my question is what will he do or how far away will he go if he knows a female dog is in heat? He has been missing from my home for 2 days now. What do male dogs do when a female dog is in heat?? I really do not know much about it so thats why i was asking. So if you could let me know as soon as possible that would be great because my family misses him a lot and i do too!! If we find him we will definitely have him neutered. Thanks!!

Answer
Logan, males can smell a female in heat for miles and miles, and they will stay with that female once they find her until she will no longer allow them to breed. They will get into fights with other males who try to come and breed with 'their' female, and may even become aggressive towards people who try to approach.

I would strongly urge you to have your dog neutered if you are able to find him. If you have not already done so, I would suggest that you contact your local animal control and let them know that he is missing, in case they might have picked him up. Also put up flyers around your area so that people can call you if they spot him.

Good luck.
