Question
Hi.  We have a staffordshire terrier/corgi mix we will need to fly with in a couple of weeks.  Weve never crated him (he was full grown when we got him, and never needed it)and now he reacts poorly to a crate.  Is there anything we can give him or do for him to make it a less harrowing experience?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Sinceh h never been crated and he is an adult he won't like it NO matter what you do, but i do have advice for what TO DO.  First off you can put a small bowl in the crate with him.  Don't not put food in it but put ice cubes in it before you leave him.  With the ice cubes in there they will melt and give him al little wter on they wy ut not to much.  Also you will want to make the experinece as good as possible.  You can put is favorite blanket in there and some toys.  Don't put him in the crate until it is time to go.  Also have some paper towels when you pick him up after the flight!  Sometimes they will get SO excited they pee and stuff so you might want to have something to clean up just incase!  They also sell pills you can give your dog to calm them down so he won't be so wild and crazy!  You could give him one before you leave.  Ask your local vet about those.  Between now and then you should work on crate training.  GOOD LUCK AND BEST OF WISHES!
