1 or 2 dogs better?

Hi.  We have a 3-year-old female Chihuahua.  She is so sweet, smart, and very laid back.  We have had no problems with her.  My husband and I both work and many times have social commitments at night or on weekends, so she spends a lot of time alone.  My parents have two Chi's who come over and visit now and then, which our dog seems to totally enjoy playing with.  We are considering rescuing an 8-week-old female puppy whose owner is now in the hospital and can't take care of her.  Do you think this will be traumatic for our dog?  We worry about whether she'd rather be alone or whether she would enjoy the company of another dog.  Thanks.

I think after the initial jealousy, etc.  she will love the company. Chihuahua's like company.  The question is, how are you going to take care of an 8 week old pup when  you have to be away for long periods?   They get fed 4/5 times a day and need training.  The idea of having a friend for your little girl is fabulous, though.
