my staffordshire bull terrior

my staff keeps chasing his tail he is 7 months old but ever since he started doing it bout 3 weeks ago he does it for ages its like he is abscessed he made it bleed where he bite it once but still keeps doing it now how do i stop him? is it true he go mad if he keeps it up?

Please note the part about keeping track of these episodes as documentation for your veterinarian. Medication may be of some use for this. This can also be a hereditary problem in some dogs.
